210-MILE RUN BY 21 AIRMEN
Twenty-one runners, the average age of whom is 38, will leave the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Woodbourne on Friday morning on a sponsored run to Wigram, a distance of 210 miles. The money they raise will go towards a cardiac monitoring unit for the Wairau Hospital at Blenheim.
All the runners are members of the Woodbourne Aerobic Club, which has a total membership of 40. The run is being snonsored by the residenfs of Blenheim and Woodbourne.
The oldest runner is Leading Aircraftsman J. Harris, who is 49. The most senior in rank is Wing Commander R. R. Blank, the commanding officer of the Airman Cadet School. Each runner will cover 10 one-mile stages; the distance between the two bases is expected to be run in 24 hours. A baton will be carried and a message will be taken from ithe commanding officer of I Woodbourne (Wing Commander R. V. Smith) to the 'base commander at Wigram ■(Wing Commander R. A. Mackinder). *
