Games pool

Sir,—The City Council apparently has not consulted authorities on competitive swimming, which is what the Games pool is primarily designed for. Today’s competitors are children who must train daily, all the year round, to maintain the standards set throughout the country. How many of our children train daily at the Centennial? Children cannot ride their bicycles into the city area, and on the whole parents cannot take them by car.: This accounts for the very few. competitive swimmers who train at the Centennial.. Does not the council want the pool to be used for the purpose it is built for? Nobody would consider building a. school or play centre in the city. The Merry Estate, Wainoni, is a lovely unused area, the centre of the east, where there are no public pools. The city could be by-passed from all areas to reach it Buses pass it from the city.—Yours/ etc.; FOR THE CHILDREN. March 19, 1971. [This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.”]
