R. Dowling suspended INVERCARGILL. The Wingatui horseman, J. R. Dowling, had his riding licence suspended up to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the Birchwood Hunt meeting at Invercargill on Saturday. After the running of the Kennels Hack Handicap an inquiry was held into Mountain Lion (Dowling) shifting ground at the straight entrance and causing Queen Mellay (M. J. Lawson) to be checked sharply. As Mountain Lion finished second and Queen Mellay fourth an Inquiry was held and the place dividends help up. Dowling was charged with causing interference. After hearing evidence the committee allowed the placings to stand, as it was considered that although Interference took place consideration had to be given the margins at the post and in the circumstances the committee did not consider it warranted altering the placings. Dowling was suspended to 5 p.m. on March 27. In coming to this decision the committee considered that Dowling did not take corrective measures to straighten his mount
