1970-71 WINNERS

G. T. Dowling (Canterbury) and R. O. Collinge (Wellington) have won the New Zealand Cricket Council’s premier awards for the 1970-71 season. Dowling, the New Zealand captain against England, has been awarded the Redpath Cup for batting for the third time. His previous successes were in 1906-67 and 1967-68. This season he scored 441 runs in Plunket Shield matches at an average of 49. making 38 and 39 against Otago, 22 and 102 against Central Districts, 90 and 99 against Northern Districts and 31 in the first innings against Auckland. He made 99 for New Zealand against Western Australia, 53 and 31 not out in the second test In all, Dowling scored 667 runs at an average of 445. Collinge, who has been awarded the Winsor Cup, had his best season in a career of eight years. In shield matches he took 20 wickets at 184, including 6 for 40
