Surf fishing accident
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 21. A rocket launcher for a fishing line misfired and seriously injured an Eltham man surf fishing near Manaia at 2 p.m. on Saturday. A companion dragged and carried the injured man 120 yards along the beach before leaving him to bring help, and a stretcher party took more than an hour to lift the man from the beach to the cliff tops some 400 yards from the accident site. The man, Mr Edward William Baker, aged 57, of Collingwood Street, Eltham, was in a satisfactory condition in I the Hawera Hospital today.
