CULLER SHOT
Crawled for 14 hours (N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, March 21. A Mangaweka deer culler, accidentally shot in the foot, had to crawl for 14 hours on Friday night and Saturday morning before reaching help. Mr Christopher Ewen Satherly, 26, a Forest Service culler, is now in a "fairly satisfactory condition” in the Wanganui General Hospital. Mr Satherly was working in the area of the Ruahine Range known as Hikurangi. About 5 p.m. on Friday he became entangled in some bush, accidentally discharging a shot from his high-power .222 rifle into his ankle. Alone, Mr Satherly was faced with a long haul to get help. Some 14 hours later he reached Kawhatau forestry station, between Taihape and Hunterville. He was taken to the Taihape Hospital and was transferred to the Wanganui General Hospital.
