ISRAELI PATROL IN LEBANON

A 40-man Israel military force which thrust into southern Lebanon yesterday, spent 45 minutes in a house-to-house search for Palestinian guerrillas in the village of Adeisse, a Lebanese Government spokesman in Beruit said today, the Associated Press reported.

He said that the Israelis crossed the border about half an hour after guerrillas took up positions around the village and began exchanging fire with an Israeli border patrol.

In Jerusalem, the Israeli Prime Minister (Mrs Meir) predicted last night that in-

ternational guarantees instead of new, defensible borders for Israel “will pave the way to the next war.” Mrs Meir told a world congress of conservative rabbis that Israel “doesn’t want the same borders that were so easy to attack on June 4,” (the eve of the 1967 war).

“We want borders . . . which some future Egyptian leader will look at and say

to himself: Well, I’d better not try another attack.” ARABS CHAMPIONED In Jerusalem, the powerful youth division of Mrs Meir’s ruling Labour Party defied official policy and voted last night to recognise the right of Palestine Arabs to Statehood within the biblical borders of Israel.

“There is a place for two nations in the historic land of Israel,” said a resolution approved by the group. It said that the 60,000 Arabs on the Jordan west bank had the right to selfdetermination as Palestinians. EGYPTIAN DIRECTIVE

The Egyptian President (Mr Sadat) has given the country’s 24 Governors powers to deal with "all eventualities” in their areas, amid growing signs that the Government is losing patience with the slow pace of the peace talks, it was reported from Cairo. President Sadat returned to Cairo on Friday from a short visit to Libya for discussion on the crisis with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. Egypt has been in constant contact with her three partners in the proposed quadripartite federation, Syria, the Sudan and Libya.
