Early mistakes of Devco

(N.Z. Press Association? TAUPO, Mar. 19. The directors of the Devco consortium selling New Zealand lamb in Canada and the United States had been too slow in making decisions too many times during its first 10 years, one of the directors, Mr P. S. Plummer, said in Wairakei today. He said there had been a lot of suspicion among members of the board with conflicting interests in the early years, but this had now disappeared. Directors had been appointed from the freezing companies and the Meat Board.

Mr Plummer, who is a past national president of Federated Farmers, was addressing the Independent Meat Exporters’ Association. “We have been a long time getting around to what you fellows would call sensible trading," he said. Asked what mistakes had been made, Mr Plummer said they had clung to the original consignments for too long.
