Finnish Spitz dog imported
The first Finnish Spitz I female dog to be imported to New Zealand has arrived in Christchurch. Shelveme Sea Witch is the second example of the breed in this country. The first is a son who lives in Auckland, i Shelveme Sea Witch has the [distinction of having whelped
L first Finnish Spitz litter to be bom in Australia, and it is hoped that next month she will whelp the first litter of the breed in this country. Known by the call name of Minka, she was bom in England and exported to Australia in 1969 to join two other Finnish Spitzes. A first-prize winner at very championship show she attended in England, Minka also won the junior class at Cruft’s in 1968 and was awarded reserve best in show at an open class before she was exported. Though seldom shown in Australia she also won the championship ribbon at the Melbourne Royal Show in 1969 and the reserve championship last year. The Finnish Spitz bears a resemblance to the Russian husky, which is a part of the Spitz family, together with the Elkhound, Samoyed, and Chow Chow. The spitz are reported to be the first dogs to be domesticated.
Minka has been imported by Miss L. V. de C. James, of Dunedin. Miss James breeds and exhibits Samoyeds.
