SUBARU 1300
Two Subaru car models will soon be available to New Zealand holders of overseas funds. One will be the 93 b.h.p. 1267 c.c. Subaru 1300 G sports saloon, and the other will be the standard 1300 saloon, which has slightly less power. The 1300 G model comes with woodrim steering wheel, headrests, extra trim, and has a top speed of 106 m.p.h. compared with the standard saloon’s 100 m.p.h. Both cars have front-wheel-drive and the engine is a water-cooled fourcylinder of horizontallyopposed layout. The cars have two radiators and a
thermostatically - controlled engine fan to give efficient temperature control with the least noise and powerloss.
The sports model will cost about $2900 in New Zealand (the overseas deposit being $1133) and the saloon will be $2700 ($llO6 overseas deposit). Both cars are assembled in Japan. The cars are 153 in (3.9 metres) long and 58.3 in (1.4 metres) wide. The turning circle is 32.5 ft (9.6 metres) and the fuel capacity is 9.9 gallons (45 litres). Independent suspension is fitted to all wheels, with a semi-trailing arm arrangement being used at the back. Drum brakes are fitted to the saloon, but the sports model has disc front brakes.
