FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A shallow depression northwest of Northland is moving slowly southland a slow-moving frontal zone extends from it to Cook Strait; a depression south of the South Island is moving east. Forecast:
Canterbury and the Kaikoura coast.— Moderate variable winds at first, scattered light showers; fresh to strong cold southerlies likely in the afternoon bringing frequent and heavier showers.
Marlborough Sounds.—Northerly winds strong and gusty in Cook Strait, fresh elsewhere; overcast; mild and humid; periods of light to moderate rain. Central Marlborough, Nelson and Buller. Moderate to fresh north to north-west winds; variable skies; scattered showers; gradually becoming cool. Westland.—Fresh to strong gusty southwesterlies; rather-cold and showery. Outlook: unsettled; cold south-westerly conditions with showers.
