Manaroa to run in Sydney race

Manaroa’s owner-trainer, C. J. McLaughlin, yesterday afternoon accepted an invitation from officials of the New South Wales Trotting Club to race his horse in the Miracle Mile at Harold Park on March 12. Manaroa is the second New Zealand horse for which an invitation has been accepted, the other being Stella Frost. They will be opposed by Mount Eden. The connections of Deep Court are expected to announce their decision today, and it is possible that Koala Frost will also be invited.

Details of the trip have yet to be worked out, said McLaughlin yesterday afternoon at the Methven meeting. However, it seemed as though Manaroa would leave early next week, along with Australian horses returning from the Inter-Dominion series.

Should another space become available, Manaroa will be accompanied by Royal Ascot. “He would be all the better for having one of his mates with him,” said McLaughlin. Royal Ascot, one of the top-ranked three-year-olds of the season, is raced in part-

nership by McLaughlin and the Templeton trainer, F. E. Newfield. Details had yet to be arranged, but he hoped that A. M. Harrison, who has been associated with Manaroa and Royal Ascot in almost all of their races, would be able to drive them on the trip, said McLaughlin.
