Police in Reggio
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter-—'Copyright) REGGIO CALABRIA (Italy), Feb. 23. Police with a massive show of force today took over without resistance the defiant Sbarre working class quarter of the southern city of Reggio. An estimated force of 5000 police and carabinieri, backed by 20 tracked armoured personnel carriers, entered the quarter. Half an hour before the police entry, electricity had been cut off to the district, which has kept itself behind barricades of burnedout cars and felled trees since last Tuesday. On that day the 40-man regional council of Calabria proclaimed the rival city of Catanzaro capital of the region in preference to Reggio.
