Molesworth tours

(N.Z. Press Association)

BLENHEIM, Feb. 19.

“Safari” tours will be available through the Clarence and Awatere Valleys in February and March this year and next under a licence granted by the Lands and Survey Department. The tours will go through part of the huge Molesworth Station block, which has been virtually closed to the general public. A Nelson firm will operate the tours, which will go through the Rainbow Valley (the route used by the Electricity Department) to Tarndale, St Helen’s and Hanmer, and back by way of Molesworth Station and the Awatere Valley. Limited access to Molesworth for this type of tour was one of the recommendations of the inter-depart-mental committee on Molesworth, and the Lands and Survey Department last December invited individuals and others to apply for access rights. Some stringent conditions have been laid down, it is understood. Shooting and fishing will be forbidden and stops will be made only for sightseeing and photography. This will be to ensure that there is no disturbance of cattle ranging on the huge Molesworth run.
