Pacific rise approved
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) WASHINGTON, Feb. 14.
The Civil Aeronautics Board has approved a 5 per cent increase in round-trip air fares across the Pacific. The International Air Transport Association agreed at a meeting of its member airlines in Honolulu last year to eliminate the 5 per cent discount offered on roundtrip tickets. With the approval of the governments involved, the agreement was to have gone into effect .on the north Pacific and central Pacific routes on February 1, and will take effect on the south Pacific route to Australia and Asia on April 1. The C.A.B. also approved an I.A.T.A. agreement raising fares to points beyond Tokyo, to bring them closer to the level of fares between the United States and Tokyo. Between the United States and Japan, the fares will be altered to eliminate seasonal variation and provide a single fare level throughout the year.
