LIFTER KILLED

CAIRO, Feb. 13.
Egypt’s middle-weight weight-lifting champion, Said Shaaban, was crushed to death today by 2901 b of weights he was trying to hoist above his head. The Middle East News Agency said Shaaban was trying to press the weights when he lost his balance and tripped. The weights fell on to his chest. His backbone and ribs were crushed and he was killed instantly, the agency said. A Soviet weight-lifting expert who saw the accident said: “This is the first instance of its kind in the world.”
The accident occurred in Zagazig, capital of Sharkia governorate which borders the Suez Canal zone.
