APIHAI IN HOSPITAL
Paremoremo next (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Feb. 14. The Tongariro prison escaper, Charles Rangi Apihai, was in a fairly satisfactory condition in the Waikato Hospital today. His companion, during last Thursday night’s high-speed chase and capture, Gene Hakopa, aged 17, was in a satisfactory condition. Both youths are still under heavy guard in the hospital, and are handcuffed to their beds.
Apihai will be transferred to the Paremoremo maximum security prison as soon as he has a medical clearance.
His condition on Friday was given as satisfactory. His condition on Saturday was only fair, but today it improved to be fairly satisfactory.
