RAPID SCORING BY SYDENHAM

Lancaster Part won the toss and gave Sydenham the first use of an unresponsive wicket at Sydenham Park. The home batsmen scored rapidly from the outset. Seventy-two runs came from the first 13 overs before a wicket fell, and by lunch the score had mounted to 132/2 from 27 overs.

J. R. Hartlaud continued his run of good scores with a wellcompiled 57. He received good support first from W. A. Thomson and then from K. D. Prusas, whose 60 was his highest score in senior cricket. Prusas's technique is not orthodox, but he hits the ball hard in all directions. His

innings included a six and four fours.

K. Thomson continued his run of good scores, but he was rather fortunate to survive three

—and the edge of the bat was prominent at times. He hit three sixes and four fours in his innings which also featured some excellent running with D. L. Gallop. All the Park bowlers suffered heavily, and only B. C. Irving consistently presented the batsmen with problems. There was good support from ground fielding, but catching errors proved costly. The Park batsmen failed to take advantage of the conditions, and unless there is a marked deterioration in the wicket next week, this game appears destined for a draw p n with great powen and C. K. Baker picked up runs

with sweeps and good placements. But 36 overs have been bowled, and at a scoring rate of three runs per over another 50 overs wiH be needed before the scores are near even.
