TROTTING Rain Again deserved winner

(From Our Own Reporter) DUNEDIN. Rain Again, well-served in the running throughout the President’s Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the final night of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s cup carnival on Saturday night, made the most of it to justify his favouritism. He won with something to spare. D. Mangos had Rain Again with the pacemaker, Bravine, throughout and it did not take him long to take Bravine’s measure and hold off

a claim from Bobby Blue, which was also nicely placed throughout. Sam Again ran a much improved race to get third ahead of Inkv Boy and Soldato, both of which were well out of it at one stage. Boy Friend broke badly at the start. His owner-driver, F. Oliver, was questioned about the horse’s racing manners. After hearing his explanation the stipendiary stewards declared Boy Friend unruly. Mister Smart gave Southland stables their third success of the night when he won the second leg, the Stan Easton Memorial Pace. Mister Smart trailed Eden Pal throughout and beat him home by naif a length.

Big Spender, a member of W. J. Doyle’s team, did not give the trotters a chance in the Times Handicap, being in front from start to finish. It was a much similar story in the tighter trotters* race, the Momington Handicap, in which, after a slow beginning. Direct Jan led for the last seven furlongs and won as she liked.

Young Trouble maintained a good recent record when she won the Summer Handicap, at two miles. It was her third success in her last four starts. Young Trouble secured her usual good run, trailing the pacemaker, David Frost, to the furlong and outstaying him with something to spare. The performance of

Johnny’s Brother to win the Waitati Pace No. 2, was outstanding. He was last with two furlongs to run, was virtually off the track at the straight but got up to win going away. Hundred Chance completed a double for the meeting when he won the Omakau Pace by a comfortable margin. He won by four lengths from Heatherloch which held off a determined finisher, Fortunate, by half a length. The back markers, Bachelor Blue and Robert Mac, had the finish to themselves in the Farewell Stakes, for three and four-year-olds, both were well back in the early running but racing to the half-mile Bachelor Blue moved through on the inner and Robert Mac began to make ground on the outer. Bachelor Blue headed the leaders at the furlong and from then on always had the upper hand. He beat Robert Mac by a length and a half. Judy Charles came home well for third half a length back. There was considerable merit in her placing as she was slow out and one of the tail-enders with half a mile to run.
