Technical Institute cafeteria
Work is nearing completion on the Christchurch Technical Institute cafeteria, which is due to open on Friday of next week. Costing more than $40,000, the cafeteria would seat 300 and was expected to be adequate, the principal of the institute (Mr C. V Gallagher) said on Friday. The cafeteria, in the converted Memorial Hall building, would be moved to the tower hall in about four years, Mr Gallagher said. The area of the stage in the hall would be used as an art gallery in which the institute’s collection of paintings, valued between $BOOO to $lO,OOO. would be hung. The collection included a Goldie and several by Austin Deans. The institute hopes to increase its collection.
