The B.B.C. in Canada

The 8.8. C, and the National Film Board of Canada are to co-produce three one-hour colour films for initial release on television. National Film Board chairman Sydney Newman, former head of the 8.8. C. television drama, and himself a Canadian, says this is only the first of many such co-production arrangements throughout the world. Production has now started, with mixed crews from the 8.8. C. and N.F.B. using technical facilities of both organisations in London and Montreal with programme producer for the project, Christopher Brasher, Head of 8.8. C. television’s General Features and George Pearson at N.F.B.

The first film features the Hudson’s Bay Company after 300 years of existence, from the Eskimo and Indian point of view. The Canadian north is the subject of the second film and will use much of the N.F.B. film acquired during the past 25 years.

The third film which is in production, shows the fascii nating life of the Netsilik Eskimos of Pelly Bay in the Arctic—the last remnants of a completely primitive existence.
