Price down for heavy lambs
For the first time this year, lamb export prices to be paid to farmers have been adjusted. From Monday, prices for lambs over 361 b will be reduced ,9c per lb.
Other classes of lamb are unchanged. . There is no alteration in skin prices. The adjustment was a reflection of market prices in Britain as a result of the greater supply of heavier lambs this season, said a spokesman for the freezing industry. It also, affected the expectation that more heavy lambs would find their way to the British market because of the reduction in the percentage of output which exporters must send to markets outside the United Kingdom and, in particular, the United States which normally take the heavier type of lamb. From Monday, all beef prices—except for over-fat cow, ox, heifer, and boner bull will be increased by 50c per 1001 b. This, the spokesman said, was a result of a strengthening in the United States beef market. The new prices are:,
LAMB MEAT Prime: 20 to 281 b, 16.8 c per lb; 29 to 361 b, 15.5 c; 37 to 421 b, 12.8 c; 431 b and over, 12.1 c. F. 20 to 281 b, 15.5 c; 29 to 361 b, 15.1 c; 371 b and over, 12c. Alpba: 12.4 c.
