SHAREMARKET ENDS WEEK ON A WEAKER NOTE
The New Zealand sharemarket closed the week on a weaker note. Yesterday New Zealand stock exchanges recorded more than twice as many falls as rises, while leaders fared worse. The overseas list was easy: B.H.P. lost 70c of its recent gains.
Property Securities led the rises; the shares continued their recent strong hand and put on 10c to 178 c. Wattie, Haywrights and C.F.M. had modest gains, and Feltex put on 5c to 375 c. Feltex’s former overseas associate also added sc. The falls were generally small, only Mannings, Hawke’s Bay Motors and New Zealand Express standing out, while Smith British Insurance was clipped 7c, to 563 c. National Insurance, and Consolidated Brick lost 5c each; leaders to shed smaller amounts were Baltins, N.Z.M.C., New Zealand News, New Zealand Breweries, L.W.R., Alcan and Harvey.
