Bursary in Aust. offered by wool research body

The Wool Research Organisation at Lincoln is offering a bursary to a student to take a course at the University of New South Wales leading to a degree in' textile technology.

Whereas there was. something of a recession in opportunities in a number of the more basic sciences, such as chemistry and physics, the demand for high-calibre graduates in applied science continued unabated, the director of the Wool Research Organisation, (Mr N. F. Roberts), said this week.

One of these fields was textile research. University training in this was, however, not available in New Zealand and to obtain New Zealand-oriented staff for its laboratory and associated laboratories overseas the organisation was again offering a handsome bursary for a student to do the course leading to a degree in textile technology at the University of New South Wales.

The standard of the course and the scholastic ability of the students taking it was extremely high. From the founding of the textile technology department 14 years ago it had enjoyed the support of a number of large Australian and overseas organisations, which offered extremely well-endowed under-graduate bursaries to secure staff for their own interests. Mr Roberts said that appli-

cations for the bursary should be made immediately to the Wool Research Organisation at Lincoln. The award would be decided soon after the announcement of university entrance bursary and scholarship results and the successful applicant would take up his bursary in about a month. The bursary provides for return fares to Australia, fees, $l4OO a year for living expenses and six weeks paid employment during the long vacation. The course lasts for four years and the bursary applies over that period. Mr Roberts said that persons interested should not hesitate to apply, as applications had not been numerous in the past. There are now four Wool Research Organisation bursars at the University of New South Wales and the first two are expected to complete their honours degrees at the end of this year.
