FRENCH STRIKE
No postal services (N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, Feb. 5. Mail services in France were paralysed today by a nation-wide postal strike which the unions claimed was 100 per cent effective in some areas.
The British postal strike is now in its third week, and letters and parcels are piled up on both sides of'the English Channel. The French strike is due to end at midnight on Saturday. It was called by France’s three biggest unions, including the Communist-led C.G.T., to press for better pay and conditions. Postal workers are also urging the Government to halt a deterioration of mail and telephone services.
The French public, which has enjoyed only spotty television service over the last week, will have no home entertainment at all next Tuesday if workers in the State-run television system obey a union call for a oneday general strike.
