A French dual-purpose frigate, the 2200-ton Amiral Charner, arrived at Lyttelton from Noumea yesterday morning on a goodwill visit. She was last here in December, 1964. The Amiral Charner, which is based on Tahiti, is commanded by Commander Y. Belin and has a complement of 177 plus one three-year-old Tahitian-born dog which belongs to the crew. The vessel was launched in 1960 and ’ completed in 1962.

This evening 20 petty officers will be entertained at a wine and cheese party given by the Sumner branch of the Navy League. Last evening a reception for 80' guests was held aboard the Amiral Charner at Lyttelton. The Amiral Charner will leave Lyttelton for Wellington on Tuesday.
