Information sought

In this sketch by Dr A. C. Barker of the intersection of Colombo and Armagh Streets 'one of the first three hotels can be seen. This .is the Golden Fleece ("Cold and Fleas” as the German partproprietor, “Baron von Gartner” is reputed to have pronounced it) on the left

On the right is the building which was to become the well-known Cook and Ross’s pharmacy. Behind it is what appears as a glasshouse. Whether Dr Barker was being whimsical in referring to it as the "Crystal Palace” or whether he was using the usual name I do not know. Indeed I know nothing of

it, having come across no references to it, nor to anyone who can supply the information. Should there be readers who are able to identify this building, they are invited to write to W. J. A. Brittenden, 130 Rugby Street, referring to photograph 78.
