Fire destroys house
Fire gutted a Kepple Street, New Brighton, house yesterday morning; the occupants, Mr A. J. H. Clift and his family are on the West Coast on holiday. The fire had a good hold by the time three engines from New Brighton and Christchurch Central arrived shortly after 9 a.m. and there was little firemen could do to save the building. By the time the fire was brought under control threequarters of an hour later only the charred remains of rooms and a badly-damaged shell were left. I The rear of the house had I the heaviest damage, and in !some places fire had burnt completely through the wall. Very little could be salvaged.
