score successes New Brighton power boats dominated the regatta held on Lake Rotoiti. W. Richardson, in his 100 cu. in hydroplane, Dial 999, had a field day. He started in 11 races, won six, was second in three and third in one.
Panic (D. Parker), the New Brighton club skiff, powered by a big Chevrolet engine, was another successful craft It won four races, including the unlimited racing runabout championship. W. J. Stokes, who took the New Zealand and North Island unlimited hydroplane championships in Voodoo on Lake Karapiro at the New Year, had a frustrating experience at Lake Rotoiti. He was keen to complete the triple by winning the South Island unlimited championship, but rain penetrated his magneto, and he was drying it when the event started.
Dial 999 won comfortably —but it had no chance against Voodoo in the next event, for the eight fastest boats at the regatta. Voodoo also won the Le Mans start event easily. Other New Brighton boats at the regatta which performed well included Bel Air IV (P. R. Knight), Bre’r Fox (P. Stokes), Miss Carthy Motors (D. Whyte), Miss Cameo (D. Foord), Miss Paula (D. Crowe) and Gin Sling (T. Griffen). Juella (W. Stokes), a boat that did so well at the national championships, was out with mechanical trouble.
