Mast lost in Atlantic
(WZ. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Feb. 2. Eric Hall, the yachtsman who left Whangarei on November 11 to sail single handed round Cape Hom, has had his boat overturned and dismasted in the Atlantic. A brief communication received yesterday read: “Manuma overturned and dismasted otherwise undamaged. Now at San Antonia, Chile. Hall, Port Captain’s Office.”
Mr Hall, a quiet 61-year-old bachelor, had planned to round Cape Hom in his 32ft yacht on Christmas Day.
A New Zealander who has spent much of his life in Britain, he was no stranger to blue-water sailing. Three
years ago he sailed the fibreglass sloop-rigged Manuma out to New Zealand.
