Misfortune hits circus
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 18. A trailer and a caravan overturned and a trapezeartist was injured when he attempted to save a terrier that had jumped from the truck on to the road, when Ridgways Circus was travelling to Turangi from Rotorua on Sunday. The trailer and the caravan were righted with the help of an elephant The trailer, carrying a load of monkeys, was not damaged and the monkeys seemed no worse for the incident. • At Motuoapa, between Taupo and Turangi, an Australian trapeze-artist Mr Bruce Taft, was struck by a passing car when trying to rescue the terrier. He was taken to the Taumarunui Hospital, treated for a dislocated shoulder and elbow and discharged today. He was out in time for the matinee performance at Taumarunui—as a spectator watching the trapeze act.
