Official report and prices

The official report on yetterday's Timaru wool sale* issued by the South Cantor* bury Woolbrokers' Association, the New Zealand Woolbuyers' Association and the New Zealand Wool Commislon states: The third sale of the season was held in St Patrick’s Hall when 21,246 bales of greasy wool were offered, this total. Including 221 bales on account of the New Zealand Wool Commission. A catalogue of 140 bales of scoured wool was also offered. The wools came from all parts of South and Mid-Canterbury and the Mackenzie Country. Over-all the offering was an excellent one, being well grown, mostly sound and of good colour. A large selection of good quality Merinos came forward and the offering of this type would be one of the largest for some years. There was a large catalogue of crossbreds and a fair selection of woolly and shorn hoggets. The halfbred selection was only a moderately-sized one. Owing to the good season being experienced, most of the wools carried a little more condition than usual and some of the later shorn crossbreds were carrying light dust. Compared with the recent Christchurch sale the market can be quoted as follows: Strong and extra fine Merinos were in buyers’ favour. Medium and fine and also better style Merinos were fully 2J per cent to 5 per cent cheaper. Halfbred fleece was unchanged, except strong halfbreds and woolly hoggets which were in buyers’ favour. Crossbreds were unchanged. Halfbred skirtings were up to 2} per cent cheaper and crossbred skirtings were inclined in sellers’ favour. A noteworthy feature of the sale was the distinct premium paid for a few lots of super Merinos, with a top price of the season being gained by 11 bales of AA fine warp Merino I wether wool, which brought 591 c. Competition was fairly general, except on Merinos which were dominated by local mills. The Continent was the principal buyer of the remaining descriptions. W»»h Some Support from
