Launch hull recovered
The Hartley Hull speed launch Ramjet 11, which foundered at the entrance to Lyttelton’s inner harbour on Sunday afternoon after having been gutted by fire, was brought to the surface yesterday afternoon and landed on the Western end of Gladstone Pier.
Two Lyttelton Harbour Board divers, Messrs C. Subritzky and M. Evans, secured the launch underwater, after which it was towed along the bottom by the reserve pilot launch Rauhine to a mobile crane on the end of Gladstone Pier. When the owner of the launch, Mr R. T. George, saw it yesterday afternoon, he said that the charred skelton of a hull was a "write-off.” He said that he thought the engine also would be ruined. The launch was insured.
