RUGBY PARK FIRE
Replacement plans
Sunday night’s fire at Rugby Park may hasten plans for improved covered spectator accommodation.
The chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Union’s Rugby Park committee (Mr R. W. Thomas) said yesterday that the wooden stand destroyed by the blaze was marked for early demolition. He said the demolition had been postponed ht the request of the Canterbury Athletic Centre, but plans .for the extension of the concrete stand and the roofing of the entire structure had been called for. A special meeting of the committee will be called to consider the position and to forward recommendations to the union.
