Zatopek resigns
(NZ.PA.-Reuter—Copyright)
PRAGUE, Dec. 6. The Czechoslovak Physical Culture Union has dismissed nine of its central committee members and has accepted the resignation of the former Olympic athlete, Emil Zatopek. Among the nine dismissed is Dr Emanuel Bosak, a former chairman of the union, which is responsible for all sports and all sports organisation in the country. Mr Zatopek, who won three gold medals for Czechoslovakia at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, was an outspoken supporter of the 1968 reform movement. Because of this, he was dismissed from his post in the Defence Ministry a year ago, lost his job as trainer with an Army sports club, and was expelled from the Communist Party. In June, he was dismissed from the Czech Republic’s physical culture central committee.
He may have been allowed to resign from the Federal committee, rather than be dismissed, because he is reported to have apologised for airing some of his views.
