United Nations
Sir, —I agree with Senator Turnbull: the United Nations does let the small, unimportant (financially, anyway) countries strut the stage of self-importance and make derogatory remarks about their benefactors. During the recent Pakistani disaster the United States provided much aid and received nought but
a scanty “thank you” in return. “P.J.A.” points out another failing of the United Nations in that Communist China is not even represented. Senator Turnbull is right also when he says that nations should be given votes according to population; then, perhaps the African bloc would disappear and the nations that matter might make some progress on a worldwide scale. Instead, we have a lot of petty people and nations living off the American dollar.—Yours, etc., THOUGHTFUL. December 6, 1970.
