Death of Judge

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 6.

The Hon. Reginald Hardie Boys, a Judge of the Supreme Court since 1958, and one of New Zealand’s formost legal figures, died in Auckland today. He was aged 67.

He became a barrister and solocitor in 1924. During his time in private practice 1 acted on instructions from the Crown before a Parlia mentary Committee on the Film Industry and the Tangi wai Railway Inquiry, and ap peared before a large numbei of other commissions and tribunals. He served on the councils of the New Zealand Law Society and the Wellington District Law Society, and was the president of the last named in 1954. He was also active in community affairs, being the president of the Wellington Returned Services’ Association at one stage, and served with the Conscientious Objection Com mittee and the Wellington District Rehabilitation Com mittee. During World War II he served with the New Zealand forces in the Pacific. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1958, and in August of the same year was

sworn in as a Judge of the Supreme Court. He was born at Otautau, Southland, the son of the Rev. R. W. Boys, and received his secondary education at Palmerston North Boys’ High School.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, one of whom is a barrister and solicitor.
