Cheque use sought
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. A hope that the Government would soon consider allowing trustee and Post Office savings banks to develop cheque facilities—a common practice overseas—was expressed at the week-end by Mr M. M. N. Corner, general manager of the Auckland Savings Bank. On his return from a meeting of the consultation committee of the' International Savings Bank Institute, at Dusseldorf, West Germany, Mr Corner said that in order to encourage saving, banks had to offer clients easier methods of using their money. Mr Comer also said he believed that trustee and Post Office savings banks had not been allowed to compete on an equal basis with insurance companies, building societies trading banks, and credit unions.
