Christmas party
The festive season began happily for 109 elderly people yesterday. They were guests at an afternoon Christmas party given by the social committee of the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council at St Mary’s Anglican Church Hall, HalsTheir hostesses, various groups in the Halswell area, were the League of Mothers, the Catholic Women’s League, the Halswell Garden Club, the Halswell Play Centre, the Association of Anglican Women, the Presbyterian and Methodist Women’s Fellowship, the Halswell Plunket Mothers’ Club, and the Halswell branch of the Plunket Society. During the function the guests were each presented with a spray and a packet of short bread by their hostesses The social committee presented Christmas cakes, and all those celebrating birthdays in November, December and January received gifts. .. . . Transport was provided by the council’s group of volunI tary drivers.
