Fewer out of work
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. The number registered as unemployed with the Department of Labour has substantially decreased, the Acting Minister of Labour (Mr Thomson) said. Figures have fallen by 349 —from 1661 on October 30, to 1312 on November 13. Apart from March of this year, when the number fell to 1296, this is the lowest number recorded since April, 1967. Of the 1312 registered, 867 were in receipt of unemployment benefit, which also showed a significant decrease of 175 from October 30.
District unemployment figures, with the previous figure in parentheses include: , Blenheim, nil (3); Nelson, 29 (54); Greymouth, 33 (34); Christchurch, 188 (200); Tirnaru, 14 (28); Oamaru, 6 (19); Dunedin, 53 (55); Invercargill, 89 (161).
