TOURIST DOLLARS
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. Bank officers running a money changing service on the visiting United States Navy aircraft - carrier Shangri La expect to convert between $30,000 and $60,000 American currency to New Zealand currency in two days trading. The ship arrived in Wellington yesterday afternoon. Because of the overhang of the carrier’s deck it is not possible for her to berth alongside. Instead, the 44,500-ton ship is anchored in the stream.
Yesterday three bank officers flew out to the ship before she anchored in Wellington. They changed money for crew members coming ashore, working till about 8 pan. This morning another four officers went out to the carrier by launch and continued the money changing service. Most of those on leave take between $lO and $2O ashore.
