SECOND ATTEMPT
(NZ.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ABIDJAN (Ivory Coast), November 23. Heavily-armed warships carrying armed mercenaries still occupied Guinean territorial waters today and the Government has warned the people to remain on their guard, according to Radio Conakry monitored in Abidjan. The radio said that a second group of European and African mercenaries tried to enter the capital last night to overthrow President Toure, but had been beaten off. It was the second attack in 24 hours, but the radio said that the Government still controlled the city. The radio broadcast also said that invasion forces were lining the Guinean frontiers on the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Portuguese Guinea. It said that three members of the banned Guinea Opposition Party—Mr Nabi Youla, a former
ambassador to Paris, Mr Ibrahim Kake, and Mr Diallo were in Abidjan from where they were directing the invasion operations.
