Antarctic jet boat
A 36-passenger Jet launch is being built by Stars Jets, Ltd, of Tauranga, to be used this summer as a ship-to-shore craft by the Antarctic cruise ship Lindblad Explorer. Resembling a jet barge, and designed and built by the firm, the vessel will be of aluminium construction and equipped with armour-plate glass panels on the bottom. It has no under-water projections or propellers and is fitted with a ramp to allow passengers to walk straight off on to the shore. The new vessel will be delivered to the Lindblad Explorer at Hobart in January on the ship’s first cruise south.
