Another easy win for Radiant Globe

Radiant Globe advanced in favour for next month’s Auckland Cup when he spread-eagled his rivals in the Ollivier Handicap, bringing his record at the meeting to two wins a second and a fifth.

Radiant Globe was even more impressive on Saturday than he was when successful in the Allan Matson Stakes last Tuesday. Radiant Globe’s trainer-driver, J. G. Hampton, won the race when he sent his horse three wide with about six furlongs left True Averil attempted to go with him, as did Monsignor, but they were left floundering. Radiant Globe was fifth at the halfmile, where he appeared to be pacing easily. He passed Upper Class on the home turn, and from then on the field was at his mercy. He was easing right down at the finish, with five lengths to spare. He paced the 13 furlongs In 3min 21 2-ssec, with the leaders taking 2min 2 3-ssec for their final mile, the last half-mile in 60 l-ssec, and the last quarter in 29 3-ssec. Radiant Globe has now had 14 wins and 26 placings, and has won $30,000. Rhinegolde paced her best race at the meeting to get up and shade Bramble Hall for second. She was fortunate to escape trouble when Garcon Roux broke with more than five furlongs left. Bramble Hall received the run of the race and fought on for third, four lengths in front of Hakim, which was a shade slow early and then raced in the open for much of the way. Intrepid, which had every chance, was a disappointing fifth a head back, a short length in front of Royal Count. Upper Class was two lengths away, a neck In front of True Averil, which did not show his usual dash. Manaroa, Sam Tryax and Snowline lost ground at the start. Manaroa fell and Snowline was pulled up in the accident caused by Garcon Roux. Chequer Board was also checked. WON *11360 Tony Bear and Johnny Gee, from W. R. Butt’s Templeton team, advanced their winnings at the meeting to $11,500 when they finished first and second In the Greyhound Handicap. Tony Bear, driven by R. D. Butt, brought his record for the meeting to a win, a second and two thirds worth $4425, when he beat his stablemate by more than a length. Johnny Gee won $7075 at the meeting, the result of one win and three seconds, two of which were nose defeats. He was several lengths from Tony Bear for most of the way and fought on gamely for his placing. He returned 3min 25 fnr

furlongs, not far outside Moor Boy’s record of 3min 23 4-ssec Merrin, after breaking neat the half-mile, trotted hl* best race at the meeting to finish three lengths from Johnny Gee in third place, with a short

n length to Cleome and a head to e. Salvander, which took the lead ir with two furlongs left. Inferno it made up much ground for sixth, h ahead of Precocious, which, like e most of the others, broke during rt the race.
