N. J. O’Leary suspended
N. J. O’Leary, the driver of Sam Again, which finished third in the Final Handicap at Addington Raceway on Saturday, had his horseman’s licence suspended until after December 19. O'Leary was found guilty of careless driving causing interference to Thurber Scott, driven by A. K. Holmes, with about three-quarters of a furlong to run. Rauka Lad was promoted to third, and Van Rover to fourth. After the Ollivier Handicap, a short inquiry was held into the breaking of Garcon Roux, which came back sharply on to Manaroa and others. It was found that Garcon Roux broke when free of interference. Two inquiries resulting from incidents in the Express Handicap last Tuesday night were completed, no action being taken tn either case. The first incident involved Van Rover and Sheer Delight. Van Rover was found to have moved in under pressure, causing a slight check to Sheer Delight. The other incident involved, the breaking of Trader Horn at] the straight entrance. P. Wolfenden was fined S 5 for failing to report to the clerk of; the scales. Women drivers’ contest ■ Mrs D. Nyhan, wife of the ; Templeton trainer. D. D. Nyhan/ drove Gough's Last to win the! Lady Drivers’ Invitation Stakes on Saturday. It was the first occasion that such a race had been run at Addington Raceway, and proved a surprisingly! popular attraction. Mrs Nyhan got Gough’s Last away smartly. She was always well clear, winning by 10 lengths' after returning 2min 41 4-ssec for the 10 furlongs. Real Garrison, driven by Miss C. Fine, was handy all the way and took second by two lengths from Sandover, driven by Miss A. Murfitt. Well Received, driven by Mrs F. R. Tyack, was a handy fourth. Fashion Wise, driven by Mrs N. Ferguson, and Teen Hoven, driven by Mrs F. G. Mitchell, made mistakes and gave their reinswomen a difficult drive. All six drivers showed splendid horsemanship. Their efforts wet*e warmly applauded by the large crowd.
