Convalescing in style

LONDON. When mothers are no longer expectant, but in bed at hospital or at home feeling thoroughly proud of themselves, they obviously want to look their best, writes Norman Hartnell. Today they have never had a better chance of doing so. There are whole new ranges of nighties, brunch coats, bed-jackets, or pyjamas in cheerful colours such as primrose yellow, soothing pale blue, healthy, spring green, or a sunny apricotorange. There are also exotic nighties which later on can double as evening dresses, though in my opinion they fail at both jobs. So do lounging suits that the hostess wears to entertain, and then to sleep in. Most unhygienic! Do not fall for any of these exotica if you are convalescent Nobody expects to see you in a silk jersey pyjama suit costing 10 guineas or more. You may disdain the oldfashioned bed-jacket, but today’s broderie anglaise embroidered coat-dress type nighties are modest, pretty and comfortable in bed.
