Wage index rises
(H Z. Pre** Association} WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. The nominal wage rates index for men for the quarter ended on September 30 shows an increase of 12.4 per cent on the figure of a year ago. On a December, 1965, base of 1000, the latest figure is 1332. It was 1185 in September last year. Giving details of the index, the acting Government Statistician (Mr E. A. Harris), said that there had been a noticeable acceleration in the last three quarters. The index does not measure actual ruling wage rates, but only the rates fixed or agreed to. In the quarterly indices for the two earlier years there was a greater difference between actual wage rates and nominal rates than for the current year.
