PUBLIC BODIES
“Too much in committee” <N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 22. Changes in the methods of public bodies to overcome general apathy toward their proceedings, have been advocated by the Mayor of Hamilton (Mr M. J. Minogue). Too much work was being done in committee, often as a defensive measure against the news media, he said. Generally the whole conduct of a public body’s affairs should be wide open to public scrutiny. "Throughout New Zealand we are often not achieving that, and it negates the whole idea of a democracy based on well-informed men and women,” said Mr Minogue. .
