Plunket Shield rejects strike form

If the pre-lunch session at Hagley One belonged to Lancaster Park, the period fbetween lunch and tee certtW belonged to High School O d Boys. A fruitful partnership from C. L. Bull end, J. W. Calder not only saw their side through a difficult .period but •Iso raised the scoring rate te the extent that four batting bonus points were gained.

D. J. McKendry’s decision to send High School Old Boys in seemed vindicated at lunch, for half the strong batting side was out for a mere 97 runs. K- C. Chambers, in an attacking open-

tag spell, had removed the openers, while B. C. Irving found bounce and turn in the pitch which he used to good advantage. Irving bowled few loose balls, and no batsman played him with confidence; but in the afternoon little support came from his fellow bowlers. In this period, Bull and Calder were able to advance the score by 111 tn 104 minutes. Bull’s was a fine innings. He kept the score moving when tilings were difficult, and then launched an attack on the quicker bowlers to score his last 26 runs in even time. Calder also played his part capably and showed a fine array of shots, while earlier in the inning. B. G. Hadlee batted weU unul he fell to a fine diving slip catch by W. R. Wilson. High School Old Boys ended a successful afternoon by capturing six Lancaster Park wickets, this in spite of the absence through sickness of 8. T. Chambers. A. R. Hounsell was accurate and the two off-spin-ners, M. L. Ryan and Calder, were equal to the added respon* A. E. Collins scored his runs in his usual explosive manner and C. K.
