AWARD FOR SCOUT

Earlier decision reversed (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) FOSTER (Rhode Island), Nov. 22., The Boy Scout Council board of review has unanimously endorsed James Clark, aged 16, for an Eagle Scout award. He had been denied this because local scout officials said that he was an atheist, and that this belief was incompatible with the ideals of the movement. James Clark probably will receive final approval for the award from Boy Scout headquarters in New Jersey within two weeks, said a board spokesman. An official of the Naragansett Boy Scout Council had ordered the award withheld, but after the decision was made public on November 13, officials said that the youth’s case would be reconsidered.

The youth received the em dorsement of the minister of the church that sponsors the troop.
